RTL v. Catholic34
Decided May 18, 2015
RIGHT TO LIFE,
Plaintiff, represented by Culture of Life,
v.
CATHOLIC34,
Defendant, in absentia.
On May 10, 2015, Catholic34 made a false statement on an application for the Right to Life Army, withholding that he was a member of the region Nazi Europa. On May 13, 2015, the NationStates staff banned Catholic34, the player, from the website. The regional government asked the Justice Court, without a hearing, to impose a permanent forum ban on Catholic34 and to seize all of his financial assets. The Court issued such an order and, a few days later, delivered a full written opinion on the case.
NEW DOLGARIA, JP, delivered the opinion of the Justice Court.
Right to Life regional law does not currently provide specific guidance for dealing with moderator-deleted nations. Since Right to Life is based in the game NationStates and requires members to abide by NationStates rules on the Regional Message Board and in other in-game activities, it makes sense that when members violate game rules, they are also violating Right to Life law, even if there is no specific law prohibiting doing something to incur deletion by the moderators. In the opinion of the court, a player who incurs Delete on Sight (DoS) from the NationStates moderators should automatically incur a forum ban and account seizure on the Right to Life forums, with no need for the government to request the court to pronounce such a punishment. This should not apply to cases in which individual nations have been deleted but the player remains allowed on the site (DEAT).
