UK Summer 2019 Update
The United Kingdom would like to wish all our friends across the game a happy summer! Here are some of the key events that have taken place in our region over the previous term.
June 2019 - July 2019
The June General Election resulted in Sinn Fein sweeping up the majority of seats in the 61st Parliament. In addition, Sir Henry Norfolk was elected to serve as the 53th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. During the course of his term, Prime Minister Norfolk oversaw the abolishment of both the Public Service Department and Junior Secretary Program. The Prime Minister implemented Executive Order 54. It gave the administration team the authority to create sub forums for embassies, business, religious and political entities; as well dealing with inactive citizens re-masking.
On 28th June 2019, Henry Norfolk announced his resignation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom due to RL issues. He was succeeded by Lucas Stewart, who was elected to serve the remainder of the term after defeating elder statesman Andrew B Fraser in the July By-Election for Prime Minister.
With the growing effect of summer inactivity starting to hit the region. Prime Minister Stewart began his efforts to steer the region through the impending summer lull. He nominated Jacob Stewart to serve on the crown court and re-introduced weekend games to the region. In addition, the United Kingdom organized its very first space themed festival called “Space: The Great Beyond”
In the realm of legislative affairs. The 61st Parliament saw its share of legislation being debated on in its chambers. However one constant throughout the course of the term was the high turnover of MPs, who either resigned due to RL or were removed for inactivity. The 61st Parliament saw the Flexible Election Timing Amendment (2019) and Legal Services Regulation Act (2019) being voted down in the House of Commons. The Executive Branch Simplification Act was approved by both houses of Parliament, however it is currently facing a legal challenge from petitioners; who have brought a case to the Crown Court
August General Election
Prime Minister Stewart announced his intention to stand for a full term as Prime Minister. His ChangeUK party were quick to register their candidates to stand in August. Sinn Fein we’re quick behind their heels, nominating Chris Mikaelson as their candidate to take on Prime Minister Stewart. They were the only party to register five candidates to contest the full range of seats in the House of Commons. The main issue for this election was the inactivity creeping over the region, a variety of different ideas were proposed and debated over the solutions to tackle the inactivity. Both candidates for Prime Minister participated in a face to face Q&A session with each other called “Straight Talk Sit Down”.
Prime Minister Stewart was able to secure a majority of the votes in the Prime Minister race, defeating Mikaelson eleven votes to nine. Sinn Fein fought of the challenge from ChangeUK and Plaid Cymru to retain their majority in the House of Commons. Regional veterans Klaus Mikaelson and Michael R.E Stewart from Sinn Fein being elected to the House of Commons. Madeline Norfolk(SF), Richard Hamilton(SF) and Lucuas Stewart(ChangeUK) were re-elected for another term.
